Labyrinth

Labyrinth

For our first family game review, we’ve chosen a tabletop game that is very family-friendly and has a lot of replayability. Labyrinth by Ravensburger has been a Family Standard Time favorite for many years now!

Labyrinth is a classic maze board game that requires logic and advance planning, and teaches cause and effect. The original version is recommended for ages 7+, but there are some Jr. variations that have a smaller game board and therefore make it easier for younger players. The original version also has some rule modifications for younger children as well. The game is for 2-4 players. The average game takes 30-45 minutes.

Game Setup

To setup the game, shuffle the maze pieces and randomly place them on the board. With the variety of pieces and directions, the maze and pathways are always different! There will be one maze piece left. This extra maze card will be used to create new pathways. Next, shuffle the treasure cards and deal them face down to each player. Each player chooses a playing piece and puts it on their starting corner.

Game Play

To play the game, each player looks at the top card of their treasure pile without showing it to anyone. There are 12 arrows around the game board that indicate the moveable rows. Keeping the treasure goal in mind, each player takes turns inserting the extra maze piece into one of the rows to create a new pathway. Each player’s turn consists of two steps. First, you insert a maze piece; second, you move your playing piece as far as desired along the open pathway. It can take multiple turns to reach your treasure. When you reach your treasure goal, you place your card face up in front of you and then look at the next card in your pile to see your next treasure.

Object of the Game

The object of the game is to move through the changing maze to collect all of your treasures. The first player to collect all of their treasures and get back to their starting corner wins!

We hope that you like this game as much as we do!
