No Yeast Greek Yogurt Pizza Dough

No yeast? No problem! We were intrigued when we first heard about a quick and easy pizza crust dough that didn’t require yeast. Would it bake like a traditional pizza dough? Better yet, would it taste like a traditional pizza dough? For research purposes, we needed to try it!

The dough is truly simple and fun to make. It’s a bit sticky when you first go to roll it out, so be sure to add enough flour to your rolling surface and rolling pin – the dough will absorb that extra flour and roll out nicely. It crisps up nicely in the oven and everyone in our family gave it a thumbs up. You can leave the garlic powder out if you want to, but we think it adds a hint of flavor to the dough and helps offset the tang of the yogurt.

This recipe is definitely easy and fun for a make your own pizza night with the family!

Ingredients

1 cup all-purpose flour

1-1/2 tsp baking powder

1/2 tsp kosher salt

1 tsp garlic powder

1 cup plain Greek yogurt (whole milk, low fat or nonfat)

Directions

Preheat the oven to 475°F.

To start, mix the flour, baking powder, salt, and garlic powder in a mixing bowl. Add the yogurt, then stir until combined and the dough comes together.

Next, generously flour a large cutting board or flat surface that you can knead and roll the dough out on. Put a bit of flour on your hands and take the dough out of the bowl, then place it on the floured surface. Gently knead the dough until it’s a nice consistency, adding more flour if the dough still feels wet to the touch.

Note: Low fat and nonfat yogurts tend to be a bit thinner and runny, therefore if you use a lesser fat content, so you might find yourself adding more flour.

Form the dough into a ball and roll it out into a circle. Don’t worry if your dough doesn’t roll out into a perfect circle though because it’s okay – that’s part of the charm of homemade pizza! This recipe should give you a medium-sized pizza that can be cut into 8 slices. However, you can also divide the dough to make smaller individual-sized pizzas.

Finally, transfer the dough to a baking sheet or pizza stone. Top your dough with your favorite pizza toppings. Place your baking sheet on the bottom rack of your oven and bake for 14-18 minutes for one pizza or 8-10 minutes for smaller pizzas.

Let the pizza cool slightly before cutting into slices. Buon appetito!

Tips

If you prefer a crispier crust, bake the dough on the bottom rack of your oven for approximately 3-4 minutes before adding toppings.

If the crust is cooked to your liking, but you want the cheese browned a bit more, turn your broiler on and move your baking sheet up to beneath the broiler. It usually doesn’t take long, so keep an eye on your pizza and don’t walk away from the oven.
